Pubs will be packed over Christmas and the New Year but for many, come January, they’ll be struggling once again, with around 13 UK pubs still shutting their doors every week.
But a new technology platform, Screach, is fighting to breathe life back into the Great British Pub — and, after a hugely successful 2015, is now inviting punters to invest in it via the crowdfunding website, Crowdcube.
Cloud-based entertainment and communications platform, Screach.com, gives pubs their own bespoke TV channels through which they can drive footfall and sales — and engage more with their customers by using the very latest digital, data-led and app-based technologies. It has been proven to increase pub sales by a massive 53%.
Screach has already received £3.7m in funding from professional investors, which has allowed it to test and perfect its technology. It is now crowdfunding an extra £550,000 from smaller investors — to further drive product development and embed its technology in more of the estimated 150,000 under-utilised TV screens in the UK’s 48,000 pubs. The minimum investment is the cost of a pie and a pint, at just £10.
Reflecting its commercial potential, it recently signed a 3-year partnership with BT Sport, which is currently promoting Screach to its 24,000 pub customers. Since Screach went live in July, up to 70 pubs have been registering every day, with 2,200 pubs signing up in the past three months alone. Screach expects a further 5,000 pubs to sign up to its services in 2016.
Among other things, Screach enables pubs to:
In the words of Michael Hill, landlord of The Strawberry, a pub next door to St James’ Park in Newcastle: “Screach, to me as a landlord, is one of the ultimate business tools to promote my business and product.”
Robert Rawlinson, Founder and CEO, Screach, commented:
“They may be busy during the festive fortnight but pubs are still having a tough time of it, with around 13 shutting every week. Screach is finally helping pubs to fight back by empowering them to drive footfall, increase sales and interact much more intelligently with today’s digital-savvy and mobile-connected generation. We’ve had a very successful year and, with the additional funds we are raising on Crowdcube, intend to continue our mission to reinstate the Great British Pub as the cornerstone of the community. Best of all, now pub-goers themselves have the chance to play their part.”
